چکیده

Boron carbide (B4C) is of interest in the armor community due to its combination extreme hardness and low density. However, it difficult utilize these properties many applications challenges associated with forming near-net shapes B4C, combined inherent sinterability without application external pressure. In this study, highly loaded (51 vol. %) aqueous B4C suspensions were developed injection molded at room temperature followed by pressureless sintering up 2075 °C. Three different aids (Y2O3, Al, Al2O3) used aid densification process. parts sintered high density (up 97.7% relative density) values 3200 Vickers). The flexural strength samples was limited grain pullout during polishing tensile surface; correlated maximum flaw measured intersection surface fracture (R2 > 0.98). robust performance their resulting densities demonstrate room-temperature molding process as a viable alternative for low-cost shaping components.

Thermal Processing of Injection-Molded Silicon Carbide

Silicon carbide is the most important and versatile non-oxide ceramic. Powder injection molding (PIM) is a method of high-speed fabrication of complex near-net shapes of SiC and other powders. Green micro-machining (GMM) is used to extend the shaping capability of green ceramics and powder metallurgy to smaller feature sizes. Debinding—removal of organic additives—is the rate-limiting step in P...

Compression and Associated Properties of Boron Carbide

Our present work presents a direct association of the observed loss of shear strength in boron carbide under plane shock wave compression to amorphization in boron carbide under triaxial stress compression. This evidence is obtained from in-situ measurement of Raman, and infrared vibrational spectra of boron carbide confined in a Diamond Anvil Cell (DAC) under hydrostatic and non-hydrostatic pr...

Some mechanical properties of a highly cross-linked, microwave-polymerized, injection-molded denture base polymer.

PURPOSE The impact strength and the flexural properties of denture base materials are of importance in predicting their clinical performance upon sudden loading. This study compares the impact and transverse strengths and the flexural modulus of three denture base polymers. MATERIALS AND METHODS The investigation included a relatively new microwave-polymerized polyurethane-based denture mater...

The effects of stoichiometry on the mechanical properties of icosahedral boron carbide under loading.

The effects of stoichiometry on the atomic structure and the related mechanical properties of boron carbide (B(4)C) have been studied using density functional theory and quantum molecular dynamics simulations. Computational cells of boron carbide containing up to 960 atoms and spanning compositions ranging from 6.7% to 26.7% carbon were used to determine the effects of stoichiometry on the ato...
